Last month my sister sent me a referral link to mGinger - a website with a unique business model of paying to read SMSs on your cellphones. As I don’t use any cellphone connection I just had a look at this website critically. But I found it to be a good and practical business model. mGinger.com, started by three engineers, works on the principle of permission-based marketing. The website was launched on 19th April, 2007 with a beta version and had less than 50 registered members at that time. SMS advertisements which used to irritate cellphone users could turn out to be money-spinners with this Bangalore based website. It will pay to those who willingly register with it to receive advertisements through SMSs at their convenient hours. For each ad received, the mobile phone user gets paid 20 paise. They can refer their friends and relatives for which they get 10 paise for every ad they receive and 5 paise for every ad their friends referrals receive. “Thus People can make anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 1,600 per month through this,” Chaitanya Nallan, its CEO, said.
Even though the subscriber stands to earn monetary incentives, the idea behind mGinger is to transform your perception of advertising. This innovative service came about when Ginger COO Veerendra Shivhare started receiving irrelevant text messages every second day. “I was tired of telemarketers and this frustration drove me to find a solution to this advertising menace,” he says.
Problems lead to solutions. And this one has perhaps hit the jackpot for him. Over 200 advertisers has already shown interest for carrying out their campaigns and It has attracted over three lakh registered users across the country within a very short span.
The model is a win-win solution for advertiser as well as consumer. Advertiser will not have to thrust their advetisement through illegally acquired mobile numbers and will get them to more targeted and focussed audience. On the other hand consumers will get rid of unwanted advertisement at odd hours. They can always subscribe to their specific fields of interest.
It has given me enough reasons to get a mobile connection for me when there is someone else who can foot my bills
. But till then, if you are interested to join this mutually beneficial model, you can register yourself through my sister’s referral link here.
