The Power of Yelling Together
Posted on August 23rd, 2007 at 12:48 pm by Ashutosh

Assume if on one weekend, all of us starts discussing a particular subject or topic wherever and whoever we gossip with, what situation it could be? Well, it might signify a event, a danger or a news which has intensely influenced us all. So we had the urge to discuss it with whomever we interact. And more we discuss, more of the attention it gets from the society. That’s how society starts thinking about that issue, develops its ideology about it and work out some kind of solution or future measure to deal with it.

It is the human nature that she puts urgent priority to the matters which affect her the most, beginning with the personal matters and then comes in the issues related to the family, the relatives or the friends, the neighbours and then finally the society and the environment. Matters or issues common to all are dealt with the least priority as we are not the only one responsible for it and there are so many who could be blamed for the same. So we don’t feel any guilt if we ignore them altogether. We have a list of several excuses to defend ourselves. Over time ignoring social issues becomes our habit and even when we are in a position to contribute a bit, we can’t despite our wishes, because we get habitual to ignore them and we don’t have left with any strength in our wishes!

But here is a way to show you how a little of your effort can make a big impact on our society. The hypothetical situation, I started this post with, of occurrence of an event provoking us all to discuss a common issue leads society to a solution or give a direction to our society is a basis of this solution. We only need to focus on a issue, create a hype so that it gets the attention of all and this will lead us a step closure to its solution.

Last week, our blogger community had a novel thought to celebrate one day annually dedicated to some social cause, when each of us blogger will write on a predefined topic or subject. She will express her views whether in its favour or against it. She might suggest or criticize or do whatever, but the central theme should be that predefined subject. This will create the urgency about that subject. Whatever search engine you search for, whichever blog you visit, you will find the same topic being discussed everywhere. And we bloggers hope that it will outbreak into some positive actions.

This year all bloggers will celebrate Blog Action Day on October 15th ,2007. And they will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. And I request you all to participate in this event to give our environment more importance. Even if you are not a blogger, you can contribute your thoughts on the environment at different online community or forum like the one at Century Community, various print and electronic media or merely writing comment on the blogs you visit.

The Blog Action Day website was launched only last week and when I confirmed my participation there only a couple of days back, there were only around 1000 member blogs. But when I checked it today, there were already about 2,500 confirmed participants. And the rate of growth is exponential. Just see how many more joins in till the D-day. Let us all collectively amplify our voice for a good cause.
