wood ducksSpring is finally in the air, and with it comes good times outdoors with friends and family at the cabin, the barbeque, or the ball field. Nothing says spring quite like a game of baseball or softball, but this year for the Wood Duck teams, spring means playoffs.

The Century College baseball and softball teams are playing in region playoff games this week. The softball team travels to St. Cloud for games tomorrow and Friday, May 9-10; while the baseball team hosts the first round of the regions on Friday, May 10, with games at 11:00 am and 2:30 pm.

The softball team, coached by Angela Kenney, finished the season 5-3. “Our starting shortstop, Haley Husom, was named NJCAA DIII national player of the week twice this season,” said Kenney in an email.

The baseball team, coached by Dwight Kotila, finished the regular season ranked #4 nationally in the latest NJCAA baseball polls, released May 8, with a 32-11 record. In only its third year as a program, the Century College baseball team is playing at a high level. “Aside from the success on the field, over three-quarters of the players have received their AA degrees the past two years,” said Kotila by email. This is the true measure of success in collegiate sports, and Kotila’s program is setting the bar high. They’ve also had 12 players receive baseball scholarships to four-year schools in the past two seasons.

The Century College spring sports teams have had successful seasons resulting in playoff appearances, and look forward to deep runs in the playoffs. Go out and support the Wood Ducks.
