On April 18, the Student Life hosted the Wood Duck Award to honor advisors, students, clubs, and programs that contribute to the vibrant community of Century College.  Besides some annual awards such as Outstanding Student Organization, Student Leader of the Year, or Wood Duck Spirit Award, for the first time, the Dedication to Student Life Award was presented to recognize the accomplishments of Cindy Peterson. Cindy is an Assistant to the Deans at Century College who has shown her guidance and support to many student leaders and organizations at Century throughout the years.

This year, the theme was “Once Upon A Time,” reflecting the magical and incredible work that students and clubs have been dedicating to Century community. Every table was decorated with centerpieces representing Disney tales, such as Frozen, Tangled, Mulan, Tarzan, the Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and more. All centerpieces were created by hands by students from the Planning Activities Committee.

To add on another surprise, Kristin Hageman and Justin Martin, MCs of the event, dressed up as Ariel the Little Mermaid and Snow White. They opened the ceremony with a hilarious parody version of “Part of Your World” to encourage students to be active members of the Student Life at Century.

The event’s guest speaker was Xiong Lor, a Century College alumnus who was former President of the Asian Students Association (2010-2011) and the Student Senate (2011-2012). Xiong talked about the benefits of joining clubs and the importance of being a student leader. In his speech, Xiong proudly said that taking those leadership positions “transformed [him] to be the guy [he is] now.”

The Award closed with the recognition of both former and new members of the Student Senate.
