Does working out and being rewarded for it sound like fun? If the answer is yes, then Century College is the place for you.
The Pump’N Ducks is a new club for students interested in physical fitness here at Century College. Club President Joseph Held created the Pump’N Ducks because he saw that “there are students out there that want to be part of something. Students who have a passion for physical fitness and well-being, who understand that being part of a supportive group not only benefits themselves, but benefits other students…” The club currently hosts three weekly events.
Mondays consist of weight training in the Fitness Center (West 1610) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m. The club’s vice president, Hoang Nguyen, has a new workout routine every week. This is a great time to come in and get involved as club members are always present and happy to work with students. The ducks are there to help you reach your fitness goals and have fun while doing it.
College can be stressful with the day-to-day grind of classes, homework, and tests. Feeling drained or run-down? Why not do something about it? On Tuesdays, the club hosts a Zumba session in the West Campus gymnasium from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Come and shake out all of that post-study stress at this aerobic dance class!
If students have fun workout ideas to pitch to the club, Friday is “Choice Day.” From 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. there are different activities each week. From kickboxing to Tough Mudder race training, this is where majority rules and new ideas are introduced.
In addition to gaining benefits from physical exercise and finding a group of new friends, the Pump’N Ducks have partnered with Century College Fitness Center staff to create the Health for Success Challenge. Attending open sessions in the fitness center, a Pump’N Duck event, or open gym time will reward participants with points. These points can be redeemed for Century College fitness gear such as water bottles, T-shirts or duffel bags. More information about the Health for Success Challenge can be found in the fitness center.
President Held has some advice for anyone who has never visited the Fitness Center before. “Do not hesitate to check it out…It’s my go-to whenever I feel bad or whenever I feel stress from the day-to-day. There are no good reasons not to be in the gym.”
