Century College’s Pride week is here, bringing a celebration of diversity and inclusion to the campus. From April 22nd to April 26th, the college will host many different events dedicated to honoring and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community. Join us to celebrate the past, present, and future of LGBTQ+ acceptance at Century College.
Kicking off the week on Monday, April 22nd, The Gaily Show from AM 950 will be broadcasting live from Century College from 11:00 Am to 12:00 PM. They will celebrate LGBTQ culture and entertainment in Minnesota. Later that evening, the campus will host a film screening “Being BeBe: The BeBe Zahara Benet Documentary,” a narrative telling the story of Marshal Ngwa, more commonly known by his stage name, Bebe Zahara. He is an immigrant from a homophobic part of Cameroon, BeBe Zahara became the first champion of the reality TV show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” There will be a reception and Q&A with BeBe Zahara after the screening of the event. This event will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Lincoln Mall E 2500
Tuesday April 23rd’s event is the 10th Year Anniversary Dinner & Drag Show starring Mercedes Iman Diamond from RuPaul’s Drag Race, Former Century Students/Current Drag entertainers, & local performers. This event will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Lincoln Mall E 2500. It is also strongly encouraged to RSVP for this event.
Wednesday April 24th will be the day of the LGBTQ Center Lavendar Graduation. It celebrates, and honors the achievements of LGBTQ+ Century students who are graduating this year. It will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Lincoln Mall E 2500. This event’s time and date is tentative.
On Thursday, April 25th, the Century Pride Fest & LGBTQ Resource fair, held in The Nest (W 1200) from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This gathering serves as a hub of support, education, and celebration for the LGBQ+ community and its allies.
Closing out the week on April 26th will feature an All Campus Ally Training Session run by OutFront MN. This opportunity provides straight and cis allies with the tools and knowledge to actively support the LGBTQ+ community. This year the LGBT center is hoping to set a Century Record for the number of Century staff attending an ally training! So, if you’re a staff member, make sure to stop by.
