With the opening of Mi Sazón comes a new era at Century. There has been limited food service on West Campus since the beginning of 2020 when Covid-19 hit the college. Mi Sazón is one of the new food options along with Farmer’s Fridge, a vending machine with healthy options, now open on West Campus as the world is slowly recovering from the pandemic.
Mi Sazón first came to Century College as a food truck. Century College hired a number of food trucks in the fall of 2023 to serve students both on West and East Campus. Before the food trucks, the students’ options for purchasing food on campus were very limited. While the food trucks were helpful, they were not sustainable long term as the weather got colder.
Having a restaurant open on West Campus has improved the quality of the experience at Century for students, faculty, and staff. It gives those on campus a wider array of food to choose from, with options for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, bowls, tortas, cali-mex hot dogs, tamales, and fries. Additionally, they offer two “grab-n-go” options: ham or turkey sandwiches, and also some breakfast items which include breakfast burritos, french toast, scrambled eggs, and muffins.
Malachi O’Reilly, a former student at Century College, wishes that there had been better food options when they attended the college. “There were not enough options when I was on West Campus,” he said. “It’s great to see that Century is expanding the selection of food available on West.”
This sentiment seems to be generally agreed upon by Century students, former and current, as Isaac Herr, a current Century student at the college said that he is, “…excited to have more food options on campus!”
Mi Sazón has brought life to the space in the West Campus cafeteria that had previously been empty since 2020. By serving the students, staff, and faculty at Century, they are providing choice and promoting better health.
Andrea Meza, the founder of the restaurant, was born in Mexico, later moving with her family first to Fresno, and then to Minnesota. From there, she has worked in many different food service jobs. In 2020, Meza started her very own food truck successfully. Mi Sazón’s collaboration with Century College is bound to continue that success.
